I let my son watch scary movies. I watched them when I was a kid. My cousins all did with me. My parents saw nothing wrong with it at the time even though we’d get scared to death and barely be able to sleep sometimes. They didn’t even watch them with me. Yet now.. my Mother gets all pissy when I let Ryan watch scary movies. Even though I watch them WITH him and don’t let him watch anything TOO scary.
I personally see nothing wrong with it as long as the child is supervised. I wouldn’t let Ryan watch The Hills Have Eyes or anything like that obviously. But I see nothing wrong with a lot of others. He’s obsessed with Zombie games ad movies. They don’t even scare him. Yet they scare me. I think that’s why he likes them so much! He knows how much I hate zombies.
Do you let your children watch scary movies? Why or why not?
As long as there is no gruesome murders involved, I think it’s fine . Movies like Saw and Halloween are not good coz they are violent too. But something like ghosts, monsters, and vampires are not that harmful, I think. When we were kids we also watched horror movies and we imitated them , pretending we’re the monsters. And then my niece and nephew amused me one time when they were plaheir mother, my cousin told me her children just watch it like it’s a kiddie movie. By the way, my niece and nephew are well-behaved, normal precocious, curious and energetic 4 year olds.
It is okay for me the let kids to watch scary movies only if the movies don’t have any bloody scenes (like murder, killing, etc.). But before we go watch these movies, I will ask..”you sure you want to watch this scary movie? You might not be able to sleep tonight.”
Monster or haunting movies are okay. But still there is always a parental guidance.
